penumbra
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF LIGHT - GLOW THAT ILLUMINES, AND GLARE THAT OBSCURES
{ name } Penumbra - noun; 2. an indefinite area.
{ species } Fennec Fox
{ gender } vixen
{ age } one year and four months
{ loyalty } Fantome, hunter (I'd like to apply this character for Alphess, if possible, due to her levels of experience)
{ orientation } heterosexual
{ power } Light - Penumbra can control anything to do with vision and perception. Since vision is based solely on light, Penumbra's abilities are vast. One of these is complete invisibility, which grants her numerous advantages in hunting, fighting, etc. She can bend light in any way she wants, creating illusions and seemingly real objects. Penumbra especially likes making her fur glow. She wields her power with extreme accuracy and skil, and there's limitless things Penumbra can do with it.
{ height } ten and a half inches at shoulder
{ weight } one and a half pounds
{ build } Penumbra is very thin, and has a rather fragile, bony structure, slightly masked by her fur. She has a flexible, lithe frame, which allows her to move with pristine grace.
{ coat } A short, thick white pelt covers Penumbra, except for her fluffy tail and smooth bat-like ears. It is as pure and radiant as snow, flawless and immaculate in every way. Her fur is like silky cotton, soft and comforting. Penumbra takes care to keep it clean and glossy. As usual for one of her species, her tail is tipped in black.
{ eyes } Her eyes are dark and mysterious, like a night with no moon. They are a perfect round almond shape.
{ other } There is a large scar on the underside of her left hind paw.
{ likes } warmth, sunshine, play, winning fights, fireflies, caring for others, dominance
{ dislikes } change, depression, losing, the cold, night terrors
{ strengths } confidence, speed, trickery, experience
{ weaknesses } depression, size, emotional instability
{ hopes } to discover her purpose.
{ fears } night terrors, loneliness, abandonment
{ habits } Penumbra can become clingy when she first meets someone. She often likes to sit or sleep alone, preferably comforted by another close loved one. Running off to find little treasures, such as feathers, shells, flowers, etc. is one of Penumbra's favorite pastimes.
{ secrets } Penumbra craves attention from others, and will sometimes do things unconsciously to be payed notice to.
{ attitude } Considered emotionally unstable by others, Penumbra suffers from occasional depression, caused by internal problems. She will randomly fall into melancholic states, secluding herself from others. During these times, Penumbra will rarely speak. She has a fragile heart, and can be easily hurt when she is depressed. Frequently, she suffers from "night terrors", disturbing nightmares, causing her to scream or whimper in her sleep.
Despite her issues, Penumbra is a rather innocent soul. She will happily play with other foxes, though while playing she will often express dominance. Hopping and dancing about is how she shows joy, sometimes also indicated by her fur glowing. Penumbra is very affectionate, and displays this by frequent touches. To her, grooming, cuddling, and simply sitting close to someone is a sign of affection and love. Love her, and she will love you right back, no matter what.
Penumbra is consistently protective of her loved ones and troop. Anyone who dares to threaten them will be met with her teeth and claws. She will often adopt other foxes into her life, and care for them as if they were immediate family. Penumbra's close friends are viewed as her family, too. Few things will upset her more than harming a loved one. When angered, she is a raging bundle of malevolence, paying no attention to the object of her anger, even if they are bigger than she is. She meets many challenges with valliance, yet respects her opponents.
{ parents } Hayas; deceased, Mink; deceased
{ siblings } Benvolin; unknown, Cyllimey; deceased

{ kits } N/A
{ other } Arimaka; deceased, Ishmikori; deceased
{ events } Penumbra grew up in a barren southern desert. She was born in the same litter as her sister Cyllimey and her brother Benvolin, underneath the burning sands in the den their parents had dug. Hayas raised them by the laws of desert life. She taught them how to search for food, dig dens, and most importantly, how to wield their powers. Penumbra especially, since she and her mother both possessed the same ability to control light. It was a very critical skill for living in the desert, under the harsh rays that penetrated even the thickest coats. Benvolin and the kits father, Mink, controlled earth, making them excellent diggers. Cyllimey was the only fox who remained powerless.
It was a normal hunting party trip, the day tragedy struck the small troop. Benvolin and Penumbra had been searching for the scarce prey that hid from view, up in the gentle sloping foothills of the mountains. The rest of the troop had been residing in the underground den, when the flash flood struck. The set was gone from sight when the two siblings returned, along with their family. Penumbra was scarred, deeply. Benvolin, in a rampage, had stormed off and left her, never seen again. For around a month, Penumbra roamed the deserts and surrounding badlands, depressed, lonely, and a shell of her former self. She grew frail and weak. Her only protection was her power, allowing her to hide from danger and travel safely. It was here, when slipping on a sharp ledge, that she obtained the scar on her left hind paw, a permanent reminder of her struggles. Penumbra's ability to wield light grew stronger and stronger from her many practices, until her abilities surpassed that of even the most experienced foxes.
Then, there came a day when the horizon of the desert ceased. By now, Penumbra had grown used to the wavy lines that blurred the seemingly endless hills and slopes. A tree line rose in the distance, high above the cacti and scraggly bushes. And, it was there at the edge of the lush green forest, that Penumbra found the first foxes she had seen in ages. The squealing red fox kits had been abandoned under a willow bush, sheltered by a small stream nearby. They told Penumbra that their parents were gone. They had been too young to remember much. Arimaka and Ishmikori, they had been named by Penumbra, we're adopted and raised under the vixen's care and love. They did not possess powers, yet Penumbra taught them well enough that they could hunt and fight with skill. Penumbra thought of them as her own, even though she lacked the milk to feed them. They were weaned early and fed meat instead. Both kits helped Penumbra to be happy again. In about three months, Arimaka and Ishmikori almost outgrew Penumbra, until they were wrenched away from her life. Penumbra, leaving for a quick drink, resulted in the two kits' death. A badger had found the two sleeping in the small den where the little troop resided. The loss resulted in an emotional breakdown. Penumbra was heartbroken, and in deep agony. The pain was almost too much to bear for the young vixen. She fled from the area, deep into the woods. It was a two months later that she found the scents of other foxes, mingled together.
{ name } Meep, or any other nicknames, I don't really care c:
{ experience } 4 years, I also have some pretty okay CSS/coding skills. Another thing, I used to have my own fox role play site, but it became inactive.
{ characters } only this one at the moment
{ codeword } bunnies/sabriel
{ roleplay example } The sun showed through the tops of the trees, casting bright dappled light on the forest floor. The birds that sung in high notes carried by the wind became suddenly quiet, as the long stems of a wild onion patch slowly parted, yet they revealed nothing. Penumbra was stalking the small rustling noise ahead of her. She was cloaked in a mask of invisibility, unseen and unheard. The noise revealed itself to be a fat squirrel, gorging itself on the plentiful seeds that were abundant in the forest this time of year. Penumbra grinned to herself, and padded forward of few steps until she stood a few tail-lengths from the squirrel. In a sudden burst of light, the rodent was blinded for a second, allowing time for Penumbra's teeth to break it's neck. As she walked away, the squirrel swung lazily from Penumbra's mouth, a well earned prize for her efforts.
