I think we all will agree that everyone needs friends; for all his independence, Rift is absolutely no exception. He needs people to notice him and, although he denies it, he needs them to care. He may not acknowledge how much he needs this, and he may not treat you well, but push through and you'll find he can be surprisingly loyal when it comes down to it. Just don't expect him to give you gifts or anything; he's not that kind of loyal. But, with a whole pack of wolves baring down on you, he'd be stupid enough to run towards them, if only to provide a distraction. Don't expect him to do this for you without reason - he won't do this for just anyone. Still, since I tend to enjoy torturing my characters, he may have some heartache coming his way at some point, and he'll need someone there. He's emotional enough to get caught up in a depression if he's left alone, and that's just no fun at all. At least, not forever.

cause he's a bad boy with a tainted heart and even i know this
ain't smart, but mama i'm in love with a criminal, and this type
of love isn't rational, it's physical, mama please don't cry, i
will be alright, all reason aside, i just can't deny, love the guy
Just for kicks, he's going to need a love interest down the road. I'd highly prefer someone who puts up with his antics when given no choice, perhaps banters back, but generally pretends she can't stand him - and he actually believes it, because underneath the genius he's a bit of an idiot, and beneath the supposed ego he actually doesn't really have any confidence at all. It would become his mission to make her want him, of course. He'd bother her incessantly, never leaving her alone, probably treat her no differently than anyone else - except he'd be staring longingly after her when he thinks no one's watching, throw in a bunch of quips about knowing she wants him but she'll never have him, and so on and so forth. Basically, his version of denial that he's actually reliant on someone else's presence and thinks about someone other than himself in more than a "so and so will eventually be useful" manner. Anyone game?
e n e m i e s
keep holding on when my brain's ticking like a bomb, guess the
black thoughts have come again to get me, sweet bitter words
unlike nothing i have heard sing along mockingbird, you don't
affect me, that's right, deliver it to my heart, please strike
He's a complete and utter ass half the time; he's going to make enemies, it's pretty much a guarantee. They might be general dislikes - his attitude can account for most of that. Hatreds because of betrayals on his part are also perfectly plausible. Hell, he'd do just about anything to anyone unless someone gave him a reason not to and the idea of morality definitely isn't a "worthy" reason, so if you can think of it, it probably could have happened. With, of course, an exception of torture. He wouldn't even torture those who torture others - no, he'll just tear them to shreds.
