{ build } Slender and athletic, average height and weight, nothing particularly notable here.
{ coat } Shade's coat is a mixture of short and medium fur that varies from shades of red to shades of gray that darkens to black as it reaches his long, bushy tail. The red-orange fur covers his front legs, a good portion of his underbelly, and the backs of his pointy, triangular ears. His face is masked in gray, his back is gray and his tail is also gray, though the majority of it is black.
{ eyes } A rich, dark brown that could be mistaken for black at a distance. Diamond-shaped with lines of black fur that cascade down his face as if he is always weeping inky tears.
{ likes } Honesty, Humility, Climbing
{ dislikes } Pretense, Airs of Superiority, Deception
{ strengths } Determination, Reliable
{ weaknesses } Inability to let go of his past, Reluctance to socialize with other foxes

{ habits } Flicks his left ear repeatedly when getting annoyed, Tends to hold grudges
{ secrets } Thinks that cherry blossoms are beautiful
{ attitude } Outwardly calm in the heat of battle. He has only ever yelled once in his entire life. Contrary to popular belief, he does experience emotion; it just rarely shows on his face. It's his eyes that capture his feelings, and he doesn't readily share them with others. He keeps to himself but not to the point of completely isolating himself, as he does enjoy contributing to what he feels is the greater good. He is a bit stubborn and has a tendency to be overprotective. He has become disillusioned with how he was treated by his mother and the general attitude of the Rustique. He does not hate them as foxes; he only abhors their ideas and wants absolutely nothing to do with them. He probably would have been a good candidate for the Novelle, but his sister's fate led him to choose a different path. Because of his past, he is a bit bitter as well as cynical. He is not one for cuddles, and finds intimate moments to be unfamiliar and thus uncomfortable. He finds excessive praise and gratitude embarrassing and tends to avoid any foxes that exhibit this sort of behavior. He usually has an air of melancholy as, despite the obvious part his mother and clan played in his sister's death, he feels a sense of inadequacy for not saving her himself.

{ events } Shade's mother, Perenna, is a proud member of the Rustique. Coming from a long line of them, the vixen never thought about what it would be like to be a fox with powers. One day, she met a rogue male with whom she was smitten with. Unbeknownst to her, he was a fox with powers, just a vagrant reynard who didn't have ties to anyone. He didn't tell her, and she didn't ask. She was in love and didn't even stop to think to ask him about himself, she was just so attracted to him. The things they talked about were random and carefree. It wasn't long before they became mates. She was so happy, until the day he protected her from a bobcat by breathing fire into its face. She was horrified. He asked her what was wrong, but all she could do was run from him. He followed her, but she was faster. She got back home, and surprised to see their daughter in such a distressed state, her parents questioned her. Upon learning about the fox with powers, they set out in a rage, accusing the reynard—who by now had caught up—of force breeding their daughter and promptly killed him in front of the rest of the clan. Perenna was terribly upset, and accused her parents of blowing things out of proportion. She then confessed that she was pregnant. Her parents were not completely heartless and decided that she could have the kits so long as they didn't show any signs of power, for if they did then they wouldn't be “true foxes” and would be put to death. Perenna agreed to this, and when it was time she bore two kits: Shade and Halo. For awhile, it seemed that they would be safe, but one day she caught them playing a strange game with each other. It seemed Shade was capable of manipulating shadows, and Halo could control light. The worried mother quickly stopped their game and wildly scolded them, having now grown to love her kits despite discovering that they possessed powers. Halo, being a good little kit, obeyed her mother and vowed to never use her power again. Shade, however, continued to use his power. Because she couldn't control him, Perenna felt forced to kick him out of their home shortly after, and he left the clan at an early age. He hung around the outskirts of the territory he once called home, and his mother and sister came to visit every so often. Things seemed well as Halo had found a mate and was bearing kits of her own now, and Shade was pleased to see her so happy. It seemed that there was peace at last. Unfortunately fate had other ideas. The same bobcat who had targeted Perenna before was back. Shade attempted to lure it his way, but it was intent on chasing Halo, who still refused to use her powers. A fight with a bobcat took a skilled fighter, and Halo didn't have the prowess to take it down with strength alone. It cornered her, and before Shade and Perenna could come to Halo's aid, it launched itself at the pregnant vixen. Shade screamed at Halo to use her power, but even at that moment she refused. The decision cost her her life, and the life of her kits. Shade placed the blame on his mother, and later the Rustique. Shade decided to take up ranks with the Fantome as a lowly hunter.

{ roleplay example } {From a Pony RP, similar to My Little Ponies}
The white stallion turned to follow Solitaire when he bumped into someone's body. He felt his scales scrape against scales and pulled back to see Ember, which startled him, but not as much as he was when Ember wished to speak with him. Had they ever talked alone before? He felt his body quaking, his mind running through ridiculous ideas. He somehow got the sense that Ember was going to try and murder him, and it was all he could do not to hide behind Rainbow Flutters.
But he was the stallion, and he had to be strong for her. Strong, with muscles and stuff. Yeah. With this sad internal dialogue, the Water stallion puffed out his chest, preparing to do battle with the oldest member of their group.
All his illusions were whisked away, however, as Ember asked him a mere question. Err, right! Of course Ember would want to talk about girls. He cursed himself for having an overactive imagination, and clapped one hoof soundly on the other stallion's shoulder, laughing jollily.
“Girls! You know, they're females!” he replied, stating the obvious. He was just relieved he hadn't lost control of his bladder in that moment, and blurted out the first thing that came to mind. He didn't really know much about girls, actually, but he felt the need to pretend otherwise in order to gain Ember's approval. His eyes kept sliding over to Rainbow Flutters, as if seeking her assistance with this conversation, though he didn't know how she could possibly contribute. Besides, Ember was talking to him. What was that thing Ember was saying now?
“How many offspring do I have...” he repeated, not really hearing the question until it came tumbling off his own lips. Then the meaning behind the words suddenly dawned on him, and his face turned a nice shade of crimson. Why would Ember ask him that? Did he somehow know that he was a complete phony pony? That he'd never been with a girl, like ever? Never even kissed one? He intended to humiliate him in front of the filly! That was his aim, right? Should he make up some bogus story? But wait, a filly wouldn't want him to brag about his make-believe children, would she? That would be stupid. He might as well be dirt, then. He was torn between making himself seem more male to Ember and yet not repulsive to Rainbow Flutters. After all, he was constantly mistaken for a female, but Rainbow seemed to like him the way he was.
Despite poking fun at him. Blah.
He tried to reassure himself that the reason for the mistake in gender was just the headdress he wore while he drew out an answer. “Uh, actually I never got around to that uh, stuff. I wasn't very popular in my corner of the lake.” He glanced at Rainbow Flutters as he carefully chose his words. Well, at least it was better than outright saying he didn't have any offspring.
“Really the girls were all red eyed and scary by the time I grew up,” Wish added. “So can't say I really thought about foals.” He laughed nervously. This subject matter was not to his taste. He wondered why Ember bothered to bring it up. And with him no less! SunStorms was the one going on about foals all the time, not him! He snaked his head to the side, casting a longing glance around the other stallion at the departing figures of Solitaire, SunStorms and Paradise. Hopefully Ember would notice their absence and get going, effectively ending this awkward conversation.
