"What are you talking about? America's not going to be destroyed!" "Never? Rome was destroyed. Greece was destroyed. Persia was destroy. Spain was destroyed. All great countries are destroyed. Why not yours? How much longer do you think your own country will last? Forever?"
And indeed, America's downfall did come at the hands of a bloody war. All survivors were taken across seas and the land was left barren as the humans destroyed themselves. Destruction was in their wake, and yet, as always, the world healed. Over time, they were forgotten and life returned to a peaceful balance of predator versus prey.
Except, nothing good can stay. Things must change. Such is the way of the world.
Change came swift in the form of mutations within fox DNA - powers began appearing, weak at first, but then stronger and stronger. More and more cropped up and eventually it was unavoidable. They had already begun to band together to increased their chances of survival, but now the troops were torn apart. They grouped into two troops: the Fantome, a troop of foxes with powers, and the Rustique, a troop of powerless foxes. For generations they have been at war, with only tentative times of peace between where they simply avoided each other. No one remembers a time when things were different - for the two troops, there has always been this fight. That is all most need.
And yet, the balance is stirred - more outsiders have banded together, empowered and powerless alike to fight the odds that want them dead. The call their troop the Novelle, and their way of life leaves the warring troops bewildered. They are the outcasts, more so even than the lone outsiders who have no troop to call a family. This new troop will end in one of three ways: the end of a long and bitter war, enslavement of certain foxes or intense persecution ending in a massacre.
The question is... which will it be?
"You're a shameful opportunist! What you don't understand is that it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!" "You have it backwards. It's better to live on your feet than to die on your knees."Quotes belong to Rise Against's song Survivor Guilt.
